That is, people find it worthwhile to spend much more to live in San Francisco than in Farmington. Why is that? And given the obvious tremendous market demand for places like San Francisco (dense, walkable, gay-friendly, almost no freeways) why do government policies supported by self-proclaimed free-marketeers make it so hard to build places like that?
