Curie Youth Radio is a workshop at Curie High School on Chicago’s Southwest Side in which students write, record, and produce their own radio pieces. Many of these can be heard on PRX and some have been aired on Chicago Public Radio and NPR’s All Things Considered.
A sampling:
- Prison Visiting Hours – a teenager describes her thoughts about visiting her brother in prison
- To My Aunt Who Crossed the Border – the story of one girl’s aunt who crossed from Mexico to the US, and the pain of leaving her children behind
- Rap Over College? – a 16-year-old with good grades wants to pursue rap music instead of college and tallks to his family about it
- I’m the Guy Who Parks Your Car – the life of a young parking attendant
- How and Why We Steal – audio collage of students talking about things they’ve stolen and how they feel about it now
You can also listen or subscribe to Curie Youth Radio as a podcast.
